The new edition of the AFI Awards is set to take place on January 11 of 2013. Industry experts and AFI trustees will vote for the top 10 films and the top 10 TV shows of the year. The nominees will be announced on December 10 but the awards will be handed out on 1/11/13.

I am very excited for this event because I feel like AFI does a very good job in choosing the films and TV shows. I downloaded the checklist for the Top 100 Films of All Time and none of the movies listed have disappointed me. Except for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I didn't really "dig it".  This is great for me as a student because it tells me what I should be watching. More meaningful shows and films. I wish more people knew about this list because all people are watching is Jersey Shore and "reality" shows. As a future filmmaker, I want my films to be on this list. It would be a great honor to even be nominated. This is also great for me as consumer because if I were to buy a DVD or a TV show on DVD, I would want to buy a decent film or show. I don't want to waste money on something that is meaningless and is overpriced because its famous. For example, the other day I saw Casablanca on sale for $7.99 while The Lucky One (Zac Efron) was sold at $14.99. Amazing. I have a few questions about this. Who are the nominees going to be? Who will win? Why can't the date arrive sooner?!

  6. How do you hate "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid"? It is a great film. I think you should watch it again without having to write a report on it. Maybe you will like it better. That's what I did for "Pulp Fiction" and I like it now.
